Conventional heater bands on an injection moulding barrel also heat the air around the machine. Inmex, a German manufacturer of plasticising technology, placed the heating elements directly inside the barrel body – the heat goes where it belongs and the electricity bill drops by more than half.
How integrated heating works
In a conventional barrel, the heat is transferred from the band heater through an air gap to the barrel jacket and only then into the material. Part of the output escapes into the surroundings and reaching working temperature takes a long time. Inmex barrels have heating elements built into the barrel wall and insulation on the outer jacket. The heat is delivered directly, evenly around the entire circumference and with minimal losses.
What it brings to production
Energy savings
- up to 55% lower consumption for barrel heating,
- lower heat losses into the surroundings,
- a cooler working environment around the machine.
Faster warm-up
- integrated heat accumulation shortens heating time,
- faster colour and material changes,
- shorter production start-ups after a break.
Stable temperature
- even temperature distribution around the barrel circumference,
- no local overheating or underheating,
- homogeneous melt and fewer defects in mouldings.
Retrofit installation
- "plug-and-play" for injection moulding machines and extruders,
- installation on machines from all manufacturers,
- no major modifications to the machine.
Who the Inmex solution is for
- Plants with high energy prices – the investment pays back through savings on heating.
- Frequent material and colour changes – fast temperature warm-up reduces downtime.
- Older machines – retrofitting the barrel improves the process without replacing the press.
- Quality-focused production – a stable temperature means a repeatable moulding.
The reduced thermal load also extends maintenance intervals and the service life of the plasticising unit components.
